Smart lighting display makers share whether HDMI bandwidth will pull down picture quality
- 2020-03-09-

Smart lighting displayManufacturers share HDMI bandwidth will not pull down the picture quality, recently a foreign player test found that AMD, NVIDIA graphics card using HDMI 2.0 interface will have problems with 10bitHDR support, can only output 8bit HDR, resulting in a color number from 1.07 billion to 16.7 million, and the use of DP1.4 standard is not this problem.

After discovering this problem on the German Heise website, AMD's RX480 and NVIDIA's GTX1080 were tested separately and found that the graphics cards on both sides dropped 10bitHDR to 8bitHDR on the HDMI interface. The cause of shrinkage is that under HDMI the graphics card will reduce the YCrBr output rate from high quality 4:4:4 to 4:2:2 or even 4:2:0, since A/N has this problem, then this can not be on The A/N body, temporarily from the table on the card, should be the HDMI 2.0 interface itself problem.

AMD immediately responded to the incident, saying that because HDMI itself had not had enough bandwidth, it was possible to support 10bitHDR4K60Hz content streaming perfectly when using the DP1.3 or DP1.4 interface.

Because HDMI 2.0 has a maximum bandwidth of only 18Gb/s, while DP1.3 has a maximum bandwidth of 32.4Gb/s, the gap is very large.

Fortunately, this is not much of the impact on the display, because most high-end monitors are now popular DP interface, the impact will be greater will be the television, because the television is still mainly HDMI, and the home host and TV connection is almost all HDMI interface.

Now the new generation of graphics cards are basically equipped with DP interface, so when you choose a new display, try to choose with DP interface, for the future of new display technology support will be better.
